Takin’ it to the Streets at MSAE

Last week we attended and exhibited at the MSAE Annual Meeting & Expo in Minneapolis.

It was a fun day of education and networking with the Midwest association community.  While we were busy at our exhibit booth, we had time to make it to a couple of great sessions!

First up was keynote speaker Mark Scharenbroich of Scharenbroich & Associates, who presented “Nice Bike: Driving Meaningful Conversations”.  He talked about the importance of The Golden Rule, Over Delivering and Being Connected.  From here his tips were:

  • Acknowledge: Be fully present.
  • Honor: Create remarkable experiences for others.
  • Connect: Make it personal.

He combined these tips with the idea that we all have a core need to belong, and that “it’s more important to be interested than interesting”.

Another great presentation we were able to attend was “Stretch Your Conference Content” with Tracy King of InspirEd.  We loved her message as it so clearly aligns with one of the goals we try and help so many of our clients accomplish to expand the reach, relevance, and revenue of education programs.

She recommended promoting daily news – print publications for conference attendees and electronic publication for your membership, blogs and vlogs and of course video production!  She discussed formats such as convention news, interviews, and hot topic commentary.  It’s a great reminder of the life of conference content extending much more than just the recordings of presentations to add value.

Tracy then discussed extending your conference content with hybrid learning. Streaming sessions with live interactive chat – another excellent service we can help provide our clients with!  She also discussed using session tools such as job aids, how to’s and tip sheets as practical takeaways.

The conversation began wrapping up with touch point ideas – from having follow-up webinars to online courses to using social media – utilize as many different touch points as possible to extend learning. She emphasized the importance of meaningful, memorable and measurable learning designed for the education channel of delivery.

Another session offered roundtable discussion with peers where we did some problem solving together.  Tracy encouraged the group to look at digital learning as an essential offering and to look at it strategically.
